More Video Game Themed Drinks

We really enjoyed our video game themed evening the other night, and decided that we should take just the best parts, that would be the alcoholic parts, and repeat the process with some different games. Mixing drinks is really quite fun. Drinking them is just as fun. My husband, Billy, is really the one who played these games the most and so the drinks were mainly designed by him and implemented by Dawn and myself, who are better at the logic of mixology. I am the microbiologist, you know, except when Dawn and Billy think they are the microbiologist. Then things can just get confusing. Now, without further rambling, here are our newest recipes for drinks inspired by Alan Wake, Mass Effect, and Fallout 3.

Mmmm, alcoholic haze …

Alan WakeThe game Alan Wake is about the author, Alan Wake, who may or may not being going crazy while trying to solve his writer’s block. The game is in a world of shadows and darkness and so our drink was envisioned to bring out that shadowy element. Also, Alan Wake is addicted to coffee so that’s an important part of it. I present: the Alan Wake

in an Old Fashioned glass
2 shots espresso vodka (Smirnof makes one)
1 shot Kahlua, poured in slowly
a float of Irish Cream drizzled slowly into the cup

This one is from the top!

Doesn’t it just look spooky!

Mass Effect

In Mass Effect, your character has options as to how they want to react to things. They can be a tough, bad guy which makes them a renegade or they can be helpful and working for the greater good (the greater good), making them a paragon. This drink is based on that dichotomy. The red cinnamon renegade bites against the smooth blue paragon.

In a tall, skinny glass. We used a champagne flute, but something similar to a Collins glass might work
1 shot Goldschlager mixed with just about a tablespoon of grenadine
1 shot vodka, poured slowly
1 shot Blue Curacao, poured very, very slowly to float on top

Which side are you on?

Fallout 3

So, in terms of mixology, we don’t always win. In this case, we wanted something that represented the aftermath of the nuclear fallout, and preferably that glowed under a black light. The combination neither glowed well nor was drinkable. I guess we’ll have to improve this idea in the future.

1 shot vodka
1 shot Blue Curacao
4 oz Mountain Dew
1 shot Irish Cream, added slowly

So it did glow, sort of.

This tasted as bad as it looks. Don’t try it. Any ideas for a tasty, glowing nuclear drink? Maybe we’ll work on it this weekend.

Dawn takes all these incredible pictures!

So, go out and enjoy these new drinks. Add them to your menus and order them in bars. Also, if you have a game that you think we could make a cool drink for, let us know!

How have I never previously heard of Alan Wake? A game about a writer? This is my life.

The Fallout 3 does look really gross, haha. But the others are pretty awesome-looking.

My husband loved Alan Wake, but it didn’t sell very well, so you might be able to find it cheap soon. As for the drinks, Meatloaf tells me 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, right!

For the Fallout drink: The only drink with Mt Dew that I like is Mt Dew mixed with Raspberry Smirnoff Twist Vodka. It is a good drink that should glow.
