3 Days Until PAX: Games

Let’s be honest, PAX is a video gaming convention, and one of the things that people really want to do there is play video games. Fortunately, there are a variety of games to check out on the expo floor. The games range from big name to indie to local developers, and encompass a variety of styles. Here’s some stuff we’re excited about.
A shot of one of the PAX East games.

Big Name Games
Game developers planning to be at PAX include Ubisoft, Valve, 2K Games, Capcom, and EA. Ubisoft is promising a number of Kinect games to demo including Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, MotionSports, and Child of Eden. Rockstar always seems to have great stuff, and I intend to put in some time on Rock Band 3’s new keyboard (So can’t wait for that!!). Nintendo is promising Wii games including  Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Goldeneye 007. If you are the need-for-speed type, you can play Southpeak Games ATV racer Nail’d.

There will be plenty of other big name games and companies out there too. Just remember that these demos tend to involve a lot of waiting in line to play, but do it, you’ll be glad that you did!

Indie Games
PAX actually chose ten Indie games to feature so there is plenty of great opportunity to check out some harder to find types of titles. These look really interesting. Here’s a good place to get trailers and game descriptions so you know which one’s you’ll be interested in! Also, at PAX East, some of the games that Dawn and I enjoyed the most were the quick and easy puzzle-type games that were at booths including college programs and small developers. If you aren’t in a waiting in line mood, just wander around for an open computer screen. You might find a hidden gem.

Tabletop Games
I know I said video games, but I can’t get away here without briefly mentioning that other game demos exist. We first learned Zombie Dice at PAX East (and picked up Munchkin swag, yeah!). So, wander away from the loud screens and down by the other games for a bit of low-key fun as well!

Okay. I’m ready to get my game on, and I hope you are too!
